| Importance of reviewing your credit report |

| For adding any missing account: Your credit report might not show all your credit accounts. This is because not all creditors supply information to the credit bureaus. While some like banks and national department store supply information, others like local retailers, credit unions, and travel and entertainment companies do not. If you have been denied a loan because of your incomplete credit report and you have some accounts with the creditors, ask the bureau to add this information to future reports.For prevention of identity thefts: Reviewing your credit report regularly helps you avert any identity theft. That is when somebody uses your personal information like your name, credit card number to commit a fraud. Identity thieves may use your details to open a new credit card account in your name and then when they do not pay the bill, the delinquent account appears on your credit report. According to Federal trade commission (FTC) around 10 million Americans are affected by identity frauds every year. In India the exact numbers are not known but identity theft cases are on rise. These frauds mainly occur due to computer thefts, loss of backups and compromised information systems. |
