Puducherry has bagged the prima place in terms of being the first union territory to have achieved complete financial inclusion.

On the 22nd of November, 2011, an official declaration of the same would be made by Chief Minister of Puducherry, Mr N. Rangaswamy.

Public sector lender, Indian Bank which has been the lead bank for carrying out financial inclusion services in the region has said that as many as 25 villages having population of 2000 and around 42 having population more than 2000 have been covered under the umbrella of financial inclusion.
