HDFC files an FIR against PNB

Private sector, HDFC Bank has lodged an FIR against the state-run, Punjab National Bank (PNB) for a fraud case. The private lender claims that PNB had messed up with an amount of Rs 9.6 crore that were deposited by some representatives HDFC Bank.

HDFC Bank had filed a case against the public lender with the Patna police and the report states that two representatives of HDFC had deposited Rs 4.7 crore and Rs 4.9 crore on September 19th and 21st respectively in the Exhibition Road branch of Punjab National Bank in Patna. HDFC further says that due receipts against the deposits were received by the bank.

Also the Head Cashier of the PNB branch at Exhibition Road, R K Narayan had received the amount and since then he is not been seen, said Deputy Superintendent of police Sanjay Singh who is looking into the complaint.

"HDFC bank has lodged an FIR against NUB under sections 120B (Criminal Conspiracy) and 420 (Cheating) of IPC with Gandhi Maidan police station for bungling its amount," added Mr Singh.

On the defense, PNB refuse to have received any such amounts. "We have not received any amount from HDFC Bank. It is the police's job to carry out further investigations and crack down on the accused. We do not know if the accused was an employee of Punjab National Bank or not. We have yet to find out from our Patna branch as to what really happened. Since the bank has never received the amount, an official receipt has not been handed over to HDFC Bank," said a spokesperson from PNB.
