Public sector lender Indian Overseas Bank is looking into offering support as well as guidance to the women folk in Kerala. CMD of the bank, Mr M Narendra said that the bank is actively willing to offer loans to support women under different women empowerment programs. The bank has recently introduced business correspondent (BC) model in Vellalur village of Thiruvananthapuram district in order to distribute smart cards to the rural folk. So far 10 unbanked villages have been identified in the district. The smart card holders will be enabled to withdraw a maximum of Rs 2000 per day as well as deposit any amount of cash at any time. The BC would be there to aid them in the process. The bank happens to have given the second best performance under self help groups (SHGs) in Tamil Nadu.
