Tripura Gramin Bank (TGB) has booked profits for the tenth consecutive year this time. The bank booked net profit of Rs 35.35 crore in the last fiscal which stands out to the maximum posted by any regional rural bank (RRB) in eastern and north eastern part of the country, affirmed the chairman of the bank. The bank has also made a record in terms of business generated per branch in all the 82 RRBs of the country. Along with this it has also reported per staff business of Rs 4.38 crore in the fiscal last ended. TGB is sponsored by public sector lender United Bank of India. Other RRBs sponsored by the Kolkata based bank are Assam Gramin Bank, Manipur Gramin Bank and Bangiya Gramin Bank in West Bengal. "The bank (TGB) with 111 branches across Tripura has targeted to reach a net profit of Rs.55 crore in the current fiscal (2010-11)," TGB chairman Dinesh Mushahary said. "By September next year, all the 111 branches would come under the core banking services (CBS) and nine more new branches would be opened in rural and remote areas within a year," he added. "With the gradual opening of bank branches and new services, TGB is expected to do business of Rs.3,500 crore by March next year," Mr. Mushahary said. "Keeping with the directives of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the TGB has engaged several farmers' clubs, retired banks officials and societies as business facilitators (BF) and business correspondents (BC) to extend the banking services to unban, rural and remote areas having population of above 2,000 or even below 2,000," he added. Under the NREGA and National Old Age Pension (NOAP) scheme, the bank has issued 2000 biometric cards to give wages to workers.
