With the retirement of SBI Chairman, O P Bhatt, the top slot in the largest bank of the country is lying vacant. But State Bank of India is not the only bank having its top seat empty. Nearly half a dozen jobs in top seats in public sector banks are lying unoccupied. Punjab & Sind Bank is operating without a CMD since the past nine months. The reason for the same is that the ministry is unable to decide if they should stick to the 30 year old practice of appointing a Sikh chief for the bank or move out of it. Similarly, the post of new chief for NABARD is lying vacant since last November. In SBI again, four top level executive posts are not occupied till yet.
