Public sector lender, Punjab & Sind Bank has agreed to act as registrar for the Unique Identification project called "Aadhar". The bank has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) in this regard.

As per the agreement, the bank would be collecting both demographic as well as biometric details of its 65 lakh customer base for both its account holders as well as future customers.

Executive Director of the bank, P K Anand said that association with UIDAI is a great opportunity for the bank.

"We can leverage on the fact that there is a large number of migrant labour from Bihar, Eastern UP and Jharkhand, who can be enrolled under UIDAI project so that they can remit there funds to their native place through there Smart Card Technology," he said.

The bank has a branch network of 924 amongst which 325 cater to the rural areas.
