The RBI is taking several steps to facilitate hassle free filing of Income Tax Returns. The apex bank has not only increased the number of counters but also given permission to both public and private sector banks to collect Income Tax. Rajeev Dwivedi, Deputy General Manager said that RBI has granted authority to 144 branches of PSBs and 4 branches of private sector banks to collect IT returns. The largest lender of the country, SBI has also been authorized to open tax return collection windows. These banks have been directed to make arrangements for collecting tax by way of both cash and cheque. The apex bank recently allowed banks in Guwahati to collect income tax. Rajeev further added that the list of authorized banks and their branches has been put on display at the RBI headquarters and also in other bank branches. Dwivedi sent across a message to the public asking them to make ful utilization of the facilities being offered for filing income tax return.
