India's largest lender, State Bank of India announces to appoint employees for its associate banks. In a public announcement made by the bank, it was declared that the bank is likely to hire 4,280 clerical staff at its various associate banks across the country.

The various associate banks of SBI for which the staff will be recruited include State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Indore, State Bank of Patiala and State Bank of Travancore.

State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Patiala and State Bank of Travancore are likely to recruit more 1,000 employees each where as there are between 240 and 440 vacancies each in State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, State Bank of Indore and State Bank of Mysore.

Earlier the bank announced to hire 25,000 people during the current fiscal. This move by the bank looked strange at a time when most banks were turning off their employees following the financial crisis. The bank's Chairman, O P Bhatt said that the bank has not recruited employees for past so many years and in this fiscal they plan to hire 20,000 people in the clerical cadre and 5,000 supervisory staff.

Last year, SBI declared that it is planning to increase its number of employees including the staff of associate banks by nearly 1000.

However the other PSU banks that are planning to go on a hiring spree amid the crisis include Bank of India, Union Bank of India, Syndicate Bank, Canara Bank, IDBI Bank, Corporation Bank, Allahabad Bank and Dhanalakshmi Bank.
