It has been reported that Indian bank association has commissioned to rethink over the state banks demand to keep the branches open for 5 days. IBA will first examine merits and demerits of keeping the branches 5 days open.

State bank stated that the RBI, companies in central and state government work for the 5 days. 5 days week is already available in international banking and therefore it should also be introduced for them as well. Further banks stated that this will not impact services to the customers as they are having other alternative channels working as well like ATMs.

Rajen Nagar, president of AIBEA and general secretary of the Bengal Provincial Bank Employees Association added that having five days a week will lead to higher productivity and improve the efficiency of bank employees. Branch banking should be done only during weekdays, keeping in mind the health of employees and their ability to perform. Union members are awaiting for a positive response and this may create uniformity and banking and will help to reduce banking cost as well.
