YES Bank Non-Executive Chairman, Ashok Kapur has been killed by terrorists in the Trident-Oberoi hotel complex in South Mumbai. The Chairman had been staying in the hotel and was dining with his wife at the Kandahar restaurant in the hotel when the terrorists struck the spot on late Wednesday, November 26th. His wife Madhu Kapur however had a miraculous escape. "One terrorist was very close behind me, but some of us managed to get away and I found myself hiding somewhere with a Spanish couple," she said. Kapur, who had gone to the hotel on Wednesday night, was found dead on Friday, November 28th on the 19th floor of the hotel. His body was identified by the bank's Managing Director Rana Kapoor. "He was an extra-ordinary human being with a great sense of ethics. It is a great loss to us," said Rana. Mr. Ashok Kapur and Rana Kapoor owned a collective financial stake of 34% in YES Bank, a new generation private sector bank. An Assistant General Manager of State Bank of India (Mumbai), P K Gopalakrishnan has also been killed in the terrorist attack. Gopalakrishnan had gone to the Taj hotel to attend an official meeting following which he had gone to the restaurant to have dinner and got killed by the firing that started in the restaurant. Attacks by terrorists on three luxury hotels and the main railway station in Mumbai has left several people dead and injured. |
