An amount worth Rs 14 lakh was stolen from an ATM machine in Peddapuram town in Hyderabad by some unidentified persons. The incident came to light when an ICICI bank manager filed a complaint with the police.

The amount is said to have stolen between October 31 and November 1. The manager pointed out that Rs 14.47 lakh was stolen from the ATM on the bank premises and said that they were also verifying the transactions of withdrawal from the ATM in those two days.

A police official said that the accused had opened the ATM in the absence of the security guard with the help of a key and stole the amount. Sources say that they also tampered with the CCTV camera so that it could not capture their pictures.

A senior official said that they do not know whether it was done by an outsider or a bank staffer was involved. He said that they had launched an investigation into the matter and were questioning the bank staff as well.

In a similar incident a security guard, Niranjan Adagale in Pune had stolen an ATM containing Rs. 10.5 lakh. He was produced before judicial magistrate first class Sangitrao Jadhav for seeking police custody remand.
