In yet another ATM theft case in Pune, the thieves have this time done away with the entire ATM machine itself rather than taking away cash from it. Increasing alert being generated by banks against theft cases from aTMs has also alarmed thieves. They have been well acquainted about the CCTV cameras fitted in the ATMs. So in order to avoid their identities getting revealed through the inbuilt cameras in the ATM, the thieves this time took away the ATM itself with them. The thieves first covered the entrance camera at the ATM door and then took away the machine bearing Rs 7.6 lakhs. The ATM belonged to Union Bank of India. The case was reported by a shopkeeper who noticed the machine missing at the booth. "The incident might have taken place between 12 pm to 5 am," said Police Inspector Somanth Jadhav. "The thieves used a flex board to obstruct the view of the camera. The disc that captures the CCTV footage is installed in the machine, which they took away." |
