The railway ministry has come up with a customer friendly move by deciding to accept credit cards of customers bearing their laminated photographs as their proof of identity for travel using e-tickets.

This concept has come into effect from 6th of August 2010. The bank credit card is thus the new entrant in the list of existing valid proofs of identity like voter I-Card, passport, PAN card, driving license, Photo I-Card issued by Centre or state government, said a senior ministry official.

Railways also accepts student I cards which are issued by recognized colleges and schools along with nationalised bank passbook bearing photograph of the beholder.

All railway zones have been directed to communicate the news to their staff in order to prevent any kind of inconvenience to the traveller in this regard.
