Majority of complaints received by banking ombudsman this year pertain to credit card related issues. Major issues comprise of issuance of unsolicited cards and overcharging complaints. Out of the total number of complaints received received by ombudsman in 2009-10, card grievances figure out to 18,810 which is about 24% of the total grievances for the year, revealed RBI data. The number of complaints in this segment is continuously increasing on y-o-y basis. "A general source of these complaints continues to be the difficulty in accessing the credit card issuers and the poor response from the call centres. Simply put, this is the issue of non-transparency and mis-selling," the RBI said. "Complaints relating to credit cards (comprising 24 per cent of the total complaints in 2009-10 as compared to 25.5 per cent in 2008-09) show a declining trend this year," the RBI said.
