| In an attempt to ease recovery of credit card dues, banks have asked the employers to deduct the outstanding amount on credit card usage from the employee salary. ICICI, the country's largest bank, recently amended the 'terms and conditions' for its credit card holders, by including a clause that empowers the employers to recover credit card dues from employees who have defaulted on payment. It also entails that defaulters cannot object to this payment at the source. The new 'terms and conditions' state- "no law or contract" governing either the card holder or employers prevents the bank from seeking such deduction and subsequent payment by the employer to the bank. The deductions from the employee salary will be made until the card issuing bank recovers entire amount due on the card. All deductions made will be remitted to the beneficiary bank. Confirming the move, ICICI spokesperson, said, "This clause is applicable only for customers who default on their credit card payments. Prior notice has already been sent to all out customers to make them aware of this clause." He further said, "Only the defaulters in repayment need to be concerned and it is not of concern to regular customers." It is expected that move will be replicate by others banks issuing credit cards. |
