Bank of Maharashtra has received orders from District Consumer Forum to compensate a customer with Rs 10,000 along with Rs 3000 as expense cost for service negligence and mental tension caused to him. The customer is Raju Adkar, a local optician. In the year 2008, the bank had returned one of Raju's cheques of Rs 6,178 saying that the balance in his account was insufficient, when his account was having sufficient balance. When Raju brought the matter in the eyes of the bank officials they accepted the mistake and said it was due to fault in the computer system. But the mistake was again repeated in April and May, 2009 and the bank returned two cheques of Raju amounting Rs 25,000 and Rs 12,161. The reason cited for the act was same. Thus Raju filed a complaint with the District Consumer Forum. The forum president Sudhakar Binwade and member Manisha Khadamkar found the bank guilty and asked the bank to compensate Raju. If the bank fails to pay it within 45 days, afterwards, it will have to pay 10% interest on the compensation. |
