In yet another case of credit card fraud, a former Indian cricketer was duped of 1.6 lakh rupees. Former Indian opener Chetan Sharma has registered a case of fraud with the DLF-I police in Gurgaon, against unknown people for illegally using his credit card. This case follows many such high profile cases, one involving Shah Rukh Khan’s credit card loss in February. There was also a case of the chairman of Topiwala and Sons, who provide caps to Mumbai police to have been duped of several thousand rupees when some people bought airline tickets on his stolen credit card. The police said that the cricketer had misplaced his credit card on May 28 when he was in Gurgaon. They also said that the accused have bought items worth Rs 1.6 lakh, including a laptop. “The accused bought these items from shopping malls in Gurgaon in a span of 15 hours. He came to know about the purchases when he received three SMSes from the bank," said Kanwar Surajpal, whom Sharma was visiting on May 28. According to sources, the police have claimed that the CCTVs installed in the shops have captured the photographs of the fraudsters and they are hopeful of nabbing them. Police also suspects that the boys behind the fraud are in their early 20s. |
