The volume of transaction under the electronic payment channel for the year 2010-11has increased two folds as compared to the previous year. The growth pattern was reported by the Reserve Bank of India.

Debit cards have also grown handsomely by 40% over the past four years. ATMs have found a special significance in the life of common people. The number of ATMs are increasing at a very fast pace and are now widely available for dispoal.

All these modern means of banking have somewhere outraced the conventional ones. The footfall at the banks' branches has witnessed a dip. Cheques have also lost their priority status for the purpose of funds transfer.

The digital banking platform has grown and improved many times in last few years but still a lot needs to be done by the banks in the direction.
