According the directives of Union government and ministry of agriculture of Andhra Pradesh, farmers in East Godavari district will soon be given kisan credit cards which can be used to buy seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and for consumption. The cards can be used for a period of five years from the date of getting issued by the banks.

The new scheme is speculated to be beneficial to about 2 lakh farmers to the extent of Rs. 900 crore. It is scheduled to be implemented in the current fiscal. About 43 scheduled banks along with their 500 strong branch presence are to implement the scheme in the district under the leadership of the district's Lead bank, Andhra Bank.

The kisan cards will be given to farmers after taking into consideration the land owned by them individually. The farmer can make use of the amount credited to their accounts on cash credit basis. Interest rates rates will be charged on these cards according to the norms applicable to farmers.
