A young woman working in State Bank of India (SBI), Mannargudi was held for allegedly stealing Rs 5.15 lakh from the accounts of three customers using the debit cards sanctioned for their accounts. All three customers are from Thanjavur but are working abroad. They had opened accounts in SBI branches abroad so that their family members could withdraw the amount from here. When the relatives of these three visited the bank, they found that the amount in the accounts was very less and thus complained to the bank. In a response to the complaint, the banks checked the accounts and found that an amount of Rs. 5.15 lakh had been withdrawn using debit cards. A CCTV footage from the ATM centres revealed that Revathi (24), from Mannargudi, working as a temporary employee in the debit card section had used the cards in withdrawing the amount. She was arrested immediately. A further interrogation revealed that she had also used debit cards of two more persons for stealing money. |
