American Express Banking Corporation India has made a big change in its executive level. Shailesh Baidwan who was earlier heading the International Strategy and Business Development wing of the company from Singapore, has been appointed as head of the head of the Consumer Cards division of the company's Indian operations.

The company has taken this step in order to carry forward its plans of making a come back after the economy is moving on tracks of recovery. RBI data say that the credit card consumption in India has taken a rise from 18.28 million to 19.29 million in April this year.

"There is an unmistakable buzz in the Indian market. And the buzz appears to get louder as one goes up the affluence scale. The American Express brand, products and services are relevant and resonate very well with our customers," Baidwan said.

"We want to participate more aggressively in this growing premium space. I am very excited about the opportunity and we are poised to take the size and scale of the business to the next level over the coming months," he added.

Baidwan replaces Rajesh Saxena and will report to Sanjay Rishi, EVP & Asia Business Head, Emerging Payment and New Ventures, American Express.

"I'm really pleased to have Shailesh in this key role. He is among our most talented leaders, with significant local and international experience. India is a very important and high growth country for American Express and I am confident that Shailesh will accelerate our business momentum here," said Sanjay Rishi.
