SIB and Visa join to launch debit card for bank

Private sector lender, South Indian Bank (SIB) has tied up with global payment service provider, Visa and launched its first debit card, 'SIB Visa International Debit-cum-Shopping Card'.

The bank plans to initiate the segment with release of 4 lakh cards, said Managing Director and CEO, Dr V A Joseph. He added that plans to bring out prepaid cards are also in pipeline.

The cards will be accessible through 1.7 millon ATM otulets across the globe. Also customers can shop at various Visa merchant outlets. The cards can also be used for bill payments, at restaurants, tax payments, charitable contributions or online shopping, ticket booking or bill payments.

The present branch network of the bank is 611 to which it plans to add 30 more in the upcoming future.

The customer base of the bank accounts to 30 lakh of which 15 lakh are ATM card holders, said Joseph.
