Cases of credit card fraud refuse to die in Chennai. The police of Chennai have once again been successful in catching another fraudster. This time it involves a 20-year-old final year commerce student. He was arrested in Chennai on Tuesday for allegedly swindling credit card holders abroad to the tune of Rs.400,000, the police said. Following a complaint from ebay.com, an online trading company, the accused, Bharat Raj Purohit, was arrested from a northern suburb in Chennai. A police official in the cyber crime department said that the student was not initially involved in such actions. He had been allegedly tipped off about the loopholes in the trade by two people based in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Purohit swindled credit card holders of US, Canada and Russia after fraudulently obtaining secret access codes. He used to purchase computers, music systems and other IT accessories with the help of those credit cards. The police have also seized approximately Rs.40,000 cash from him. Interrogation is on to see his involvement with other such cases in Chennai. |
