Now a credit card can rescue you if you have violated the traffic rules and you don't have enough cash to pay the fine. The new simputer comprises a credit card reader attachment and a smart card reader. With the GPRS connectivity, the realisation of penalty would be updated at the central server in real time. This automated system enables the traffic police to keep a check on the frequent offenders. The system would allow access to data on two million cases within a minute. Traffic rules violations would appear on the screen along with the date and place, enabling the police to take immediate actions. "This would help us identify the frequent offender and realise the enhanced penalty. So far, there has not been any system by which one could go though the millions of traffic offence records to zero in on the second or third- time offender. So the system actually would substantially enhanced the revenue," said additional commissioner (I) K Hari Rajan. "This simputer even has a camera," he added. |
