Rising number of young potential moving out of Uttarakhand owing to lack of job opportunities is becoming an increasing concern these days. Ms. Indira Hridayesh, the finance minister for Uttarakhand raised her concerns on this issue recently. She believed that banks in the state should use microfinance to create job opportunities. The minister's concerns came during the meeting of State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC). The minister stated, "Banks in Uttarakhand can stop migration from hills and create job opportunities for youths". Ms. Hridayesh was also worried about the low credit deposit ratio (CDR) particularly in the cities of Haridwar and Dehra Dun. She urged the banks for the development of clusters of microfinance and providing guarantee free loans to the people. The chief secretary of the state, Mr. Alok Jain, asked the banks for deeper penetration of Kisan Credit Cards to the farmers.
