Banks not complying to RBI guidelines on no frill a/cs

The finance ministry has accepted the fact that banks are showing non compliance towards the guidelines set by RBI for opening no frills, zero balance accounts in rural areas as a part of financial inclusion drive in the country.

According to Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee's statement in Lok Sabha, some banks may not be complying to RBI norms regarding opening of no frill, zero balance accounts in rural areas.

Mukherjee added that he has advised banks to pay heed to political leadership as well as the state governments in aiding to customer grievances.

Giving importance to the need for "vigilant mechanism", he said branch officers were being made accountable.
