The Indian metal currency in circulation will shortly see an addition of coins in the denomination of 10. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is soon going to launch coins of Rs 10 that were to be released three years ago but were delayed due to some technical issues. This coin weighs 8 grams with a radius of 14mm and comprise of Nickel-Bronze on the outer side and Ferrous-Steel on the inner. It will also have a polish of gold-silver mixture. On one side of the coin, there is a lion capitol, the numeric 10, and the year of manufacturing while on the other side, there is a double line cross with a dot in each pellet of cross. The value of the coin is specified in both English and Hindi. The coin has been designed by the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad. The team working on this project was headed by Principal designer Prof Anil Sinha and included product designer Sahil Karkhanis, three students signed on as research associates and economist Dr Subir Das. Sinha says, "We submitted five designs and are waiting to see the one selected for market circulation. The coin has been designed with tactile factor for visually challenged people. It's USP will be the new graphic look keeping in mind usability factor and requirements of the mint." After the launch, this would be the highest denomination of the metal currency circulating in the market. |
