Kolkata: This new year will witness a new high tech mechanism installed in city banks entirely geared towards protecting currency chests and preventing bank robberies in Kolkata. Designed as an integrated security solution, this system consists of six closed circuit cameras, which are installed around the currency chests and linked to a wireless alarm.

The security system works round the clock and is also connected to the police control room. During the working hours if an employee of the bank senses any danger of robbery, he can just press the alarm button and the cameras will immediately get activated. This also alerts the connected police control room about the event. To get a clear view of the chest, two monitors have been installed at the control room and another monitor shows a detailed map of the place with clear directions about the shortest route to reach the bank.

This system also has an automatic activation feature, which will be required to provide security after regular working hours and during holidays. During this period any human activity near the chest will raise the alarm. Presently, 26 of the total  identified 56 banks have got this system installed. The entire operation is being financed by the banks, with the police acting as the nodal agency and all the remaining banks will be brought under its purview in this financial year.

This integrated hi-tech security system was visualized six years ago and on Tuesday it was inaugurated at Lalbazaar police headquarters by the state home secretary Prasad Ranjan Roy.
