Loan and deposit books of banks rise by 1lakh crore

The fortnight ended December 31, 2010 saw banks booked remarkable growth in credit as well as deposits. Both loans and deposits showed growth by more than Rs 1 lakh crore.

The recent RBI data shows that total credit disbursed by banks encompassing loans to individuals and business, or non-food credit, amounted to Rs3,697,265.07 crore as on December 31, up by Rs119,920.01 crore over the previous fortnight.

Deposits again showed growth by Rs171,601.71 crore to Rs 4,971,390.23 crore.

The entire quarter recorded loan growth at Rs325,205.93 crore compared to Rs 143,711 crore in the same period a year ago while total deposits rose Rs 264,097.19 crore ( Rs44,533 crore).
