After the superannuation of erstwhile chairman of the largest lender of the country, State Bank of India, Mr O P Bhatt on March 31, 2011, Mr. R Sridharan has been appointed as additional chairman of the bank.

Sridharan was previously holding the post of managing director of the bank.

He will work as the acting Chairman of SBI unless government announces a regular Chairman for the post or any other further order in the issue, the bank said.

With the new responsibility in his shoulders, Sridharan will also be presiding the board meetings of the associate banks of SBI.

He is currently the group executive (associates and subsidiaries) of SBI.

His career in SBI started in the year 1972, the same year in which Mr. Bhatt joined SBI and he has since then been associated with it so far.
