SBI to come up with bar code enabled ATMs

Banking major SBI is coming up with bar code enabled ATM facility all across the country. This facility would come up in phases and would encompass 5 crore SBI customers all over India.

This facility would enable seamless bill payment. According to an SBI official, the specialised ATM would deal with all bill payments that have a barcode.

"This can be used to pay mobile , electricity, credit card as well as civic authority bills," he said.

As per the official, West Bengal's Murshidabad district would get to see the first such ATM. West Bengal itself would have three such ATM machines.

As the process gains acceptance, 13 more ATMs which are bar code enabled would be rolled out in the country.

The official confirmed that the bank has already made tie ups with mobile service providers Airtel and Vodafone.
