The All-India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) wants all private sector banks to get the 'nationalised' tag. Their demand also includes the largest private sector lender of the country, ICICI Bank. Speaking on the issue at a meeting of the Central Bank of India Employees Union, AIBEA head Venkatachalam said, "Private banks have failed in providing loans and advances to the weaker sections of society and also in meeting their social obligations." The union leader said that it was only public sector banks which were catering to the needs and wants of the weaker sections of the society. A demand for more recruitments in the public sector banks has also been made by the leader in order to accomplish better customer service facilities. "In the next seven to eight years, about seven lakh bank employees will retire from service. Keeping this in mind, recruitment in banks should be given top priority for which there is a need for revival of the BSRB [Banking Service Recruitment Boards] for ensuring regulated and fair recruitments," he said. He also demanded for a wage restructuring of retired employees who retired after more than 33 years of service to the bank.
