Barclays Global Retail Banking, India, is all set to start Hyderabad operations. The Hyderabad branch would be Barclays' seventh branch in India. The other branches are located at Mumbai, New Delhi, Junagadh, Kanchipuram, Nelamangala (near Bengaluru) and Ahmednagar in Maharashtra. Talking about the Hyderabad branch, the interim Managinging director and Chief Operating Officer, Ram Gopal said "We are sure that our global expertise, world-class product offerings and superior services will meet the needs of the discerning corporate and retail customers of the city," he said. He pointed out that Barclays had built a strong franchise base in India during the last three years with over 9,00,000 clients and customers. Gopal said that Barclays would concentrate on home loans, loans against property and personal loans. It would also come out with products in savings, wealth management and wealth generation. Barclays has assets worth 1.8 billion pound from Indian operations which includes one billion pound from the retail segment and another 80 million pound from corporate business segments. Barclays is also planning for mergers and acquisitions to strengthen its presence in the country. It has been growing at two branches a year. |
