The Chairman of public sector lender Union Bank of India, Mr M V Nair will hold his current position for another nine months, now that his service tenor has been extended by that amount.

The central government in consultation with regulator, Reserve Bank of India decided to increase Nair's tenor till March 31, 2012 or until any other order (whichever is earlier) is released.

In April too, Nair had got an extension in service by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, headed by the Prime Minister of India.

He has been serving his present post in the bank since April 2006.
