Yet another fake currency scam in Uttar Pradesh came into light on Thursday when a Reserve Bank of India (RBI) team recovered counterfeit notes with a face value of Rs.1,49,000 from the currency chest of the Oriental Bank of Commerce(OBC) in Ghaziabad. RBI team found the fake currency in the Kavi Nagar branch of OBC during an inspection. Ramesh Prakash, Manager, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Kavi Nagar branch lodged an FIR against 32 branch managers in Meerut, Gaziabad and Gautambudha Nagar in connection with the recovery of fake currency notes from the bank's Ghaziabad chest. Prakash said that 34 fake notes of Rs.1,000, 230 notes of Rs.500 and one note of Rs.100 denomination were found in the bank. Brij Lal, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) said, "An FIR was lodged against the managers and senior managers of the branches from where these fake currency notes were sent to the Oriental Bank of Commerce's Kavinagar branch." As the investigations to grab the culprits are on, a special operation group of the Mau district police arrested a man on Wednesday and recovered fake currency notes worth Rs.40,000 from his possession. "The arrested person, Sarfraz, is a native of Bihar and is being interrogated. However, one of his associates, Izhaar, managed to flee and the police is making efforts to nab him," said Brij Lal. Earlier, fake currency notes worth Rs 4 crore and Rs 2,100 were recovered from the State Bank of India's branch in Dumariyaganj and Gonda respectively. |
