The Finance Minister of the country, Mr. P. Chidambaram, has said that the government will ensure that banking services are made available to all citizens and that the common man reaps in the benefits of financial inclusion.

On the matter, he said, "There is no doubt that efforts are being made on a large scale to ensure that benefits of banking facilities are made available to the people."

He said this on his visit to Madhya Pradesh to inaugurate the headquarters of Central Madhya Pradesh Rural Bank. He further added that to make finance available to people easily and quickly, the process of disbursing loans in segments such as home loans, education loans and agricultural loans has been simplified.

On the issue of providing subsidized gas cylinders, Chidambaram said, "Congress-run states have made arrangements to provide nine gas cylinders instead of six as stipulated by the Centre... Non-Congress governments should also take steps to provide such relief to people."
