Public sector lender, State Bank of Patiala has entered into an agreement with Unique Identification Authority of India whereby the former will act as registrar for UID project. The two entities have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard. According to SBOP Managing Director Ashok Nayar, the bank will assist UID in its project in every possible manner across various stages. The bank will put into play enrollment agencies which have been approved by UIDAI for collecting biometric as well as demographic data of residents so as to allott UID numbers to them, he said. He added that the bank's participation will act towards controlling fraud, multiple financing and mis utitilization of bank channels.
