Public sector lender, Union Bank of India has come out with its first set of UID numbers. The project of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) called Aadhaar aims to give identity numbers to all Indian citizens. Union Bank, on January 10 issued 19 Aadhar numbers in the KON village of Thane district. These numbers were distributed to the locals of the village by Dr Ajay Bhushan Pandey, Deputy Director-General, UIDAI, Mumbai. Mr S. S. Mundra, executive director of Union Bank was also present on the occasion. Interested villagers will also be provided with bank accounts by the lender along with Aadhaar numbers. Union Bank has tied up with Vakrangee Softwares Ltd for Aadhaar implementation at KON.
