The Central Crime Branch (CCB) in Chennai arrested two persons for allegedly stealing and encashing a Rs. 16.5 lakh cheque issued by the central bank to a private agency through the railway department in Coimbatore.

A CCB team led by Inspector Kanagaraj caught Rajkumar in Jolarpet and Sanjay in Bangalore. However, the prime accused Lakshmi Kanthan has still not been arrested.

In August last year, the Reserve Bank issued a cheque to Bi-metal in Coimbatore for supplying goods for manufacturing pistons for the railways. This cheque was stolen by Lakshmi Kanthan.

Kanthan approached Sanjay and Rajkumar and got the money transferred into Rajkumar's account after faking the signature of the concerned railway officer.

The RBI assistant general manager approached the then city police commissioner and lodged a complaint with him. The complaint was then transferred to the CCB.
