The Reserve Bank of India is taking several steps to relax the rush that would be coming up during income tax remittance in the upcoming months of March, June, September and December.

The RBI has authorized that some bank branches in Guwahati would be able to accept payment of income tax dues in cash or cheque.

"Due to the heavy rush of people, it becomes difficult for the bank to cope with the pressure of the receipts, although additional counters to the maximum extent possible are provided for the purpose. As a result the public is required to wait in queues atthe bank unnecessarily for long periods," an RBI release mentioned.

The apex bank has recently declared that 926 branches of Mumbai region would be receiving income tax.

The following banks in Guwahati have been authorized to receive payment of income tax. For SBI, the Guwahati main branch, Chenikuthi, Dispur, Fancy Bazar, AT Road, Gauhati University, Guwahati Refinery, Gauhati Medical College, Gita Nagar, Madgharia, Maligaon, New Guwahati, Guwahati Airport, Silpukhuri, South Guwahati, West Guwahati and ICD Amingaon would be receiving payments.

For United Bank of India, the Guwahati Main branch, Fancy Bazar, Noonmati, Secretariat, Ulubari and North Guwahati, while in UCO Bank, the UCO Main, Guwahati, Dispur, Silpukhuri, Maligaon and Rajgarh branches have been authorized for receiving payments related to income tax.
