Barclays has appointed Karan Bhagat as Managing Director and Country Head for Barclays corporate operations in India.

"Karan will play a crucial role in spearheading the growth of Barclays Corporate's business in India and in building stronger synergies with Barclays Capital and Barclays Wealth in the country," Barclays Corporate Asia and UAE Managing Director Mark Jones said.

Bhagat joined the Barclays group in 1990 under its management development program. He has worked in different roles and positions in the company since then. He has been associated with the corporate and investment banking division of the bank.

Prior to his appointment to the current post, he was based in London working as Co- Head of the Risk Solutions Group for Europe, Middle East and Africa. within the investment banking division of Barclays Capital.

The Indian operations of Barclays Plc, Barclays Corporate concentrates on commercial banking requirements of the large corporates and local MNCs. It works in close association with Barclays Capital and Barclays Wealth.

The retail operations of the bank focuses on the needs of the fast growing wealthy consumer banking customer segment in India. It works in collaboration with Barclays Global Retail Banking.
