Public sector lender, Canara Bank has tied up a deal with software major Wipro to aid in its rural banking projects. In the starting phase of the deal, Wipro will be offering core banking solutions (CBS) to the regional rural banks (RRBs) sponsored by Canara Bank. The bank currently sponsors three such RRBs namely Pragathi Gramin Bank in Karnataka, South Malabar Gramin Bank in Kerala and Shreya Gramin in Uttar Pradesh. "The initiative will enable the bank to achieve financial inclusion and bring low-cost banking services to the rural masses. The core banking solution will facilitate efficient internal operations for the three rural banks in offering innovative products and services at optimum costs," Wipro vice president Anand Sankaran said. As a part of the overall plans, the bank is aiming to integrate around 900 of its branches as well offices in phases. The integration would comprise of extension counters, training centers, data center,disaster recovery centre and network operations centre.
