The hue and cry created due to SMS received by customers from operators saying that cheques with alterations will not be considered valid from 1st July even if they are signed has been given some relaxation.

This proposal would be coming into action from December but not in all cities of the country.

The notification issued by RBI in this regard in February will be applicable only for CTS.

CTS is in trial phase currently only in the National Capital Region (NCR). Although it was initially planned that CTS would be incorporated in all the metro cities of the country, but Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata are still to receive the facility.

While CTS is applicable only to NCR, other regions of the country work on MICR method.
