Corporation Bank is planning to increase its presence in the states where it is not yet noticed. As a part of its financial inclusion program, the bank intends to make its recognition in places where there is a poor representation. Chairman and Managing Director of Corporation bank, Mr J.M. Garg said that the bank is planning to develop its presence in places where its representation is low. "We have poor representation in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. We will give more focus on these areas," he said. The bank's has a small number of branches in these states and is currently identifying the branches to come to an exact number. Further it has 65 licenses which will be used this year. The bank aims to increase its branch network from current level of 1,000 to 1,4000 in the next two to three years, said Mr Garg. At the end of September this year, the bank's total number of branches stood at 1,026. The bank also plans to reach out to the urban poor as a part of financial inclusion. As the urban poor consist of a considerable size, the bank would bring them under the banking umbrella, said the Chairman. The bank also plans to extend its branchless banking model from around 200 units to 400 units. "We will do this now throughout the country, wherever we have presence in the rural areas," he added. The branchless banking model of financial inclusion is a means where the bank uses technology and services of business correspondents to provide banking facilities in un-banked areas. Recently the bank has appointed about 150 probationary officers that will take over their charge by December, 2008 Corporation Bank has also opened a Representative Office in Dubai and it is the first international branch of the bank. |
