The Indian operations of HSBC expect a decent leap once the acquisition of the retail and commercial wing of Royal Bank of Scotland gets completed, informed a top official of the bank.

"Our main focus is the acquisition of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group's (RBS) retail and commercial banking businesses in India. We can successfully close our transactions and that will be a significant boost to our business here," HSBC India CEO Stuart Davis said.

The retail and commercial wing of RBS, which HSBC has decided to acquire had gross asset value worth USD 1.8 million as on March 31, 2010.

"We are looking at growing our branch network in India. We see a strong opportunity for growth and we expect to grow very strongly in the next 5-10 years," Davis said.

He said that although credit offtake is not high at present, but with rising investment in infrastructure projects in the upcoming months, "we expect a strong loan demand."
