The government has also released a new Rs 50 p coin.

"New coins will not only reduce the cost of moving materials but also are of user friendly size and weight," Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said.

The finance ministry has said these coins would be easier to be recognized by blind people and will also have added security features.

"The new coins will be lifted by the RBI for circulation to public very soon," the ministry said.
