Karnataka Bank is targeting the agricultural sector this year. The bank has aims to lend out credit amounting to Rs 1,104 crore this fiscal. In order to carry forward with this target, the MD and CEO of the bank, P Jayarama Bhat has urged all the branches of the bank that financial assistance needs to be extended to this sector.

He suggested banks to raise their agricultural sector lending and thus achieve RBI’s target of 18%.

Bhat has also advised the agriculture field officers and agriculture marketing officers that they need to make the farmers educated about judicious use of bank credit, understand the ailments of the farm sector and surge agricultural lending.

Bhat gave his advises and suggestions while addressing regional heads, selected branch managers and agriculture officers of the bank in agri-business conference, 2010 in Mangalore.
