The apex bank has asked the banks and financial institutions to update their lists of terrorists and terror related organisations. Banks have been asked to update the lists and ensure that before opening an account, the name of the proposed customer does not appear in the list. RBI said in a notification, "Further, banks should scan all existing accounts to ensure that no account is held by or linked to any of the entities or individuals included in the list." In August this year, the regulator had directed the commercial scheduled banks and financial institutions to ensure that no account was opened for the organisations mentioned in the United Nations. In October again, RBI asked the state and central cooperative banks to be careful that no entities contained in the UN list used banking operations in India. Securities and Exchange board of India (SEBI) had directed all stock exchanges and other securities intermediaries to maintain a vigil on UN-listed terror funding activities. |
