It has now been validated that the Aadhaar letter issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) would be a valid document for for opening all bank accounts.

The Aadhaar letter would bear the name, address as well as Aadhaar/UID number of the individual and thus act as documentary proof needed to open bank accounts.

Any limitation applicable to 'small' accounts would not be considered in this regard.

Aadhaar letter was earlier said to be considered as a Know Your Customer (KYC) document by RBI but now it has been validated to be used for opening accounts too.
